Welcome to Clark Street Ale House
We are fortunate to be one of Chicago's earliest craft beer bars, opening our doors in 1994 in the old "Stop and Drink." Being one of the few places to drink non-macro beers in Chicago during that time made us a central meeting point for beer lovers around the globe including a visit from the beloved Michael Jackson. To this day we are proud to be one of the premier bars in Chicago where beer and whiskey lovers alike can feel at home.
Answers to your frequently asked questions:
Q: Can I smoke a cigar?
A: Sorry, but no. Though we used to be a cigar friendly bar we have since moved on. Since 2008 smoking has been banned in all public spaces including bars and restaurants. We do have a private patio where you can smoke all year round.
Q: Do you have a kitchen?
A: No, we do not have a kitchen. We do however allow anyone to bring or have delivered any food they like. We even have a heavily used folder of local places who deliver right to you. In the meantime we have an endless supply of pretzel rods to keep you drinking.
Q: Can I bring my dog?
A: Yes you can! We are happy to be a dog friendly bar and we were even named one of the best places to drink with your dog. We may have misread that headline, but you get the idea.
Q: Can I bring my child?
A: Due the fact that we do not serve food, you must be 21 years old to be at Clark Street. Sorry, but this is the law in Illinois.
Q: Did I lose my keys, wallet, wedding ring there last night?
A: It's 50/50, so you might as well call and ask.
